16 x 20 on heavy linen paper - Chroma Interactive acrylics - done in a painterly style - wet into wet - alla prima - with lots of spontaneity - gusto and a total love for the southwest. Many colors are present in the desert of the southwest and sometimes requires one to "squint" to see these colors - trust me - it works and is indeed a marvel of nature. I have perhaps accentuated some of the colors to use artistic license to heighten the beautiful colors of the desert.
First - using a #18 flat brush and very watery paint I quickly and loosely lay in some directional lines that may of may not be used. This method of loosely sketching helps keep the painting loose and painterly as well as softening the glare from the pure white paper.
Next I throw in a sky typical of the southwest
Next I throw some sky color down onto the ground - this will unify the sky with the ground
Next I start throwing down some "ground clutter" desert style
I continue to generate ground clutter keeping in mind the direction of the light source
