Lunar Reflections

18 x 24 - acid free heavy linen paper - Professional Chroma Interactive acrylics done in a loose painterly style using a 2 1/2 inch brush and a palette knife.

There are so many colors in the desert when sun light or moon light hits them they take on many shades of reflected light - a beautiful thing to see.  The southwest deserts are a magical land.

Yippie Yi Yo

Yippie - Yi - Yo - did this in 1999 when I was painting in watercolor. Saw this in the local Phoenix Sunday newspaper - contacted the newspaper and since the photo was taken by a staff photographer I bought for $10, the rights to the photo for artistic purposes.

We thought this was lost in our moving around the past few years but low and behold I found it the other day in a big box in the back of my studio storage closet.

15 x 22 on 140 LB acid free Cold Press paper

This was an actual cattle drive that took place through the city of Phoenix which made front page news.

My attempt was to use wet fluid color in a loose manner without regard to realism. I was a maverick back then too!!!!  I've always painted on the theory that "LESS IS MORE!!!"

First I throw in the sky and throw some sky color down onto the desert floor  this helps to unify the painting.

Trail Into The Canyon

The Southwest has many canyons some are hiked with frequency and some are found only by a lucky few.  The deeper you go into the canyon lands the more rewarding is your experience.  11 x 14 - acid free heavy linen paper - Chroma Interactive professional acrylics - done in a loose painterly style and a love for the land of the Southwest.  During monsoon season the canyon lands can get very green and lots of wild flowers.

Mesa Glow

Been doing some real quick paintings in a loose painterly style spending the least amount of time I can do.  This is an exercise I do in order to loosen my style.  I use my 2 1/2 inch brush and palette knife both of which spread paint quickly and loosely.

11 x 14  - acid free heavy linen paper - alla prima - Chroma Interactive professional acrylics done in a painterly style in .20 minutes.

DETAIL

Some people equate time spent to price - a very unscientific thought process.  In order to do this painting in 20 minutes - every painting technique and process I've learned and developed over the past 20 years is employed in the creation of this piece - it is to what extreme these techniques and processes are applied that determines the price.

I pretty much price by the size and complexity of a painting.  This painting is not at all overly complex, rather straight forward and no specialized techniques.  Its selling price would be $85 with an acid free backer - unmatted - unframed.  Shipping cost are additional.
