Deep Into The Badlands

12 x 16 - heavy linen paper - big brush - alla prima - Chroma Interactive acrylics - done in a painterly style with lots of gusto and a very deep rooted love for the Southwest.  We drove through a portion of the badlands and it is the most lonely place - never saw other people and never saw another vehicle - it is BARRON LAND but yet IMHO it is BEAUTIFUL - the rock and cliff formations are awesome and your imagine can run wild with the history of this land.

I've once again been delinquent in posting - sooooooooo- the next 4 paintings are the results of the past week of my painting efforts.

Floral Explosion

I watched a video by an artist who FINGER PAINTS - yes - FINGER PAINTS!!!  I think art should be fun and IMHO there are too many artists who are obsessed with "PAINTING THE PERFECT PAINTING"  WeeeeLLLLLL that does not happen very often!!!!!!

I believe painting should be fun - it has it serious moments but one should always have some fin mixed in!  Sooooooo I grabbed me my trusty big 2 1/2 inch brush - my trusty palette knife and a latex free surgical glove!!!!

The background was done with the big brush
The semi abstract floral designs were done with my palette knife
The vase was done with my right index finger  - IT WAS A BLAST!!!!!!

12 x 18 with Mucho Gusto!!!!

This was done for my enjoyment and after about 35 minutes I was a happy painter!!!

Cold Front Coming In

In Southwest Florida winter is our dry season ----- however with El Nino we are having a wet & windy winter - storms with tornado activity as well as water spouts. The Gulf of Mexico most times is a tranquil body of water but when a cold front starts coming in (ie: rain & storms) the water starts to churn up!!!!

12 x 18 - heavy linen paper - Chroma Interactive acrylics - alla prima - big brush - dry brush - with gusto and emotion.

Oh Give Me A Home ............

The next 5 or 6 paintings were done in the last week - I've been lazy as far as posting :>(

Just having too much fun painting  :>)

12 x 18 - acid free linen paper - Professional Chroma Interactive acrylics - done in a painterly style
with large brush with a minimum # of strokes and lots of spontaneity.

I start out with some directional lines of what I think the form of the land will be.

I then develop the finished painting using the directional lines as my road map

I Am Tree No. V

Every once in a while I add another tree to my ongoing series of "I AM TREE."

This new one - No. V is 12 x 16 on acid free heavy linen paper - done alla prima - using big brushes and a palette knife - the tree was done with a palette knife and the rest of the painting with 2 inch brushes.
The sole purpose of this painting was to portray "TEXTURE"   I love texture in paintings - to me the texture yells out "Hey - look at me!"

This was done using a photo of a tree in a hay field in Waco Texas.

This is done in a loose painterly style - with lots of emotion & spontaneity using thick juicy paint.

My 2 inch brushes and palette knife.

The Glow Of Dusk

The Southwest desert is my most favorite place on our planet Earth!!!  Pure - plane - simple to me it is Heaven - beautiful - quiet and quite spiritual.

Dusk is one of if not the most beautiful time in the desert - the colors that can be seen are stunning - awesome - and sometimes beyond belief.

This was done using a 2 1/2 inch brush I bought about 25 years ago at Home Depot.  It is a Purdy angled trim brush - the same brush I use for painting around my home!!!
