Mountain Meadow In The Abstract

When painting with a palette knife, one can easily become engrossed in the process of applying paint as the "knife" gives a feeling of liberation from the sometime tedious brush application.  Because of this the development of "abstract" passages occur.  Palette knife painting is FUN - to me it brings about a sort of "freedom" from the "NORM" of painting.

Abstract is not everyone's cup of tea -- but from a painters perspective it presents a much wider opportunity for creativity and as I say ---- it sure is FUN

Acadia National Park - Maine

Acadia National Park is one of the more awesome sights I have seen.  Oh it perhaps does not compete with the Grand Canyon - but for a National Seashore Park - it has all the beauty that one could want.
We spent a week there in 2012 while touring the USA in our RV and went back in the summer of 2014 to get another "Acadia" fix.

This painting is 16 x 20 on heavy linen paper - done alla prima in a loose painterly style with both brush and palette knife.

Hope you enjoyed.  This painting will be for sale on my  ETSY STORE  site within a day or two.

Setting In Shades Of Red

Many times in the Caribbean the sunset will take on many shades of red - it may relate to the saying "red sky at night - sailors delight - red sky in the morning sailors take warning"
There are times that we get these settings here on the Gulf Of Mexico on the west coast of Florida.

24 x 12 - alla prima - heavy linen paper - done with gusto and emotion using 2 different size palette knives.

Hope you enjoyed

Close Call

This is another in the sail boat series - done in my interpretation of Leroy Neiman's work .  This is 18 x 24 done with 2 different size palette knives.  This is a semi abstract piece with overtones of abstract passages.   I had several intentions with this piece - bright and bold color - lots of motion and most of all to create a viewer sense of conflict, stress and urgency.

Hope you enjoyed.

Stiff Trade Winds

Yo my friends ---This winter in Florida has been a tad chilly as well as windy.  The wind gave me the idea for this painting.  This is 10 x 20 done with a palette knife on heavy linen paper.  I used bold sweeping strokes from the shoulder and arm almost fully extended.  A great feeling of liberation in this style of painting.

The winds and the gusts can reach upwards to 30 - 60 mph coming in off the Gulf of Mexico as well as from the north.  Seeing palm trees swaying and trunks bending is common place.

Hope you enjoyed.
