4th Wine Series Still Life

Yo blog buddies,

I do not do many still life paintings any more - most of my time is spent on landscapes and working with and trying new techniques.  However that said - and I just said it - I decided to do a 4th painting for my Wine Series.

This is done in a much more controlled style in which I no longer paint very often - I really enjoy the loose painterly style much more.  However - one needs to do some detail least they forget how to do it!!

This is 24 x 12 ( for those small areas ) in a room where something is really needed.

"Pinot Noir - 2009"

It's pretty much done except for the label which will be somewhat loose without a lot of detail to it.

If y'all get a chance check out my ETSY Store and my Fine Art America Store

Of interest in the Fine Art America Store prints can be purchased for what I consider to be pretty good prices and there is a money back guarantee!!!

Hope y'all enjoy

Wine Series

Yo my friends,

This is a series of 3 still life paintings - each one is 24 x 18 on heavy linen paper using professional Chroma Interactive acrylics.  These paintings are more detail than most of my work as I prefer to work in a loose painterly style.

MERLOT

BURGUNDY

CHARDONNAY

Hope you enjoyed.  If you have any interest in these send me an email @

rvpainter@gmail.com

And we can discuss them.

Winter's Crust

Hello my friends,

Winter and I do not get along!!!!!  When the temperature reaches my age (73) I get very cold - and that's the truth!!!!

I do however love to paint winter scenes - it's my way of thumbing my nose at "Old Man Winter." :>)

Winter's Crust
10 x 24

This painting was done using the image of a painting done by Daniel Gerhertz.  I changed it very little as far as the composition is concerned - however I did change the colors used as well as the textures.  My intent was to make this a very cold looking painting as well as strong tree trunk textures.

The Test Of Time

Hello my friends,

Still working on my "painterly style" and I must say I'm really enjoying the journey.

My wife and I lived in the Sonoran Desert in North Scottsdale Arizona for 7 years and I do have to say it was the best place I have ever lived and a wonderful 7 years filled with lots of memories.

The desert is a very harsh environment and any plant life which is able to sustain itself deserves a place in the desert.

The Process Of Autumn

Hello my friends,

I just did this painting the other day and brought some of my "painterly style" into it.  I find this style is working out very well for me as it gives me the looseness that I'm looking for yet at times I can sneak in just a tad of detail - but NOT TOO MUCH!!!!  As I always say "LESS IS MORE!!!!"

"The Process Of Autumn" - 8 x 24 on heavy linen paper - Chroma Interactive acrylics - done very quickly in a loose style using:

2 inch sky flow brush for sky
#20 short hair flat
#18 short hair flat
#16 short hair flat

I call these last 3 brushes my "stab & jab" brushes.  I use them many times instead of a palette knife and the painting motion is to load the brush with paint and perform quick "stab & jab" strokes both in an upward and downward manner depending on the desired effect.  At times I will load each side of the bristles with a different color paint - this gets a great marble effect of blending colors.  These brushes because of their short hairs will leave grass like marks.

The Process Of Autumn
8 x 24 - Heavy Linen Paper

My stab & jab brush work is easy to spot in the back-ground, mid-ground and fore-ground. This adds to the painterly style and brings about an element of interest for the viewer to follow.

Hope you enjoyed

Sonoita Arizona Desert

Yo,

12 x 24 "Sonoita Arizona Desert - Start of a Sunset"

Photo provided by an RV buddy Steve Conrad http://puppypaths.blogspot.com/

Bright - bold color was my objective - big brush and palette knife and a somewhat loose painterly style but toned down just a tad for this one.

I absolutely love the desert and all of the colors one can see - be in day time or night time.

Hope y'all enjoyed this.

Remember to check out my ETSY site - I've loaded up some new ones and I am having a 25% discount sale.

Palette Knife

Yo my friends,

Part of my study and development of a "Painterly Style" is the use of a palette knife.  I love the palette knife and if it were not for the cost of the excess paint ($$$$$$$) used, I would paint with nothing but my palette knife - my brushes would be obsolete!!~

The following pieces is titled "Buddies - Miami Art Deco" and was done with a palette knife - very quickly on a single sheet of  heavy canvas.

The use of a palette knife is a great way to loosen up ones style as well as produce a "Painterly" painting with a looseness that cannot be obtained with brushes.

Hope you enjoy.
