Purple Clouds Make Purple Shadows

Semi abstract piece - 18 x 24 on heavy acid free linen paper - Chroma Interactive Professional acrylics - big brushes - alla prima - done very quickly with efficiency of stokes and full arm movements.

A 2 1/2 inch and a 1 1/2 inch brush was used for this painting - allowing for lots of thick juicy paint to be applied quickly.  This is done in a "thick paint" style of artist Brad Teare whom I admire.

April showers Bring May Flowers

If the monsoon season brings lots of rain to the desert tons and I mean tons of wild flowers will bloom.  We were in the middle of a 10 year drought when we moved to AZ and a couple of years later we got record rains and wild flowers that had not bloomed for almost 10 years came alive and well lighting up the Sonoran Desert with their beauty.

Summer Time Rapids

12 x 16 - heavy linen paper - Professional acrylics - alla prima - done with big brushes in a loose painterly style with efficiency of strokes.

With watery paint I quickly put down a sketch of what the scene will be - this gives me a road map to go by and it also cuts down the glare from the white paper surface.

I quickly throw in the sky using a 2 1/2 inch brush

Giants We Three

These giants of the desert can live for 150 - 200 years and it takes upwards to 75 - 100 years for them to get "arms" - not all get arms and those that do not are called "Spears"
