BURGUANDY - 2007

Third painting in the "Wine Series"
24 x 18 on heavy linen canvas paper done with "Impasto infused" Chroma Interactive Acrylic paints.  Painted with expression-emotion- energy and rusticity ( I love that word) in an expressive style with a tad of semi-abstract thrown in to awaken the sleepy.

First I eliminate some of the white of the canvas - I LOST MY SUNGLASSES!

Next I put in some color for a "road map" to see where I'm going

Some additional color and texture and I start to develop the glass

I pour some wine in the glass :>) and start the
development of the label and surrounding area and deepen the color on the pear as well as a few highlights

Put in some background- quick-quick (I do not like backgrounds!)

Put in some foreground (I like foregrounds) -here a tweak-there a tweak and:

CHARDONNAY 2007

24 x 18 on heavy linen canvas paper with big brush - wet into wet - with Impasto Gel induced Chroma Interactive Acrylics.  Painted with expression - emotion - gusto - rusticity
( I love that word) and spontaneity of color and form.

I tone the paper image so I'm not blinded by the white of the paper.

Next I add some color to the bottle, and apple as well as background color so the glass will appear to be transparent

I throw in some more color so objects will start to stand alone but together

I work on the 1/2 full glass of wine. the label, bottle and relationship of the three to one another

MERLOT 2006

I'm working on two paintings using a medium. I never use mediums but decided to see what they are like. The medium I used was Chroma Atelier Impasto Gel. This is a thick acrylic gel used for more exaggerated structure and texture. I mixed the gel directly into my Chroma Interactive Acrylics. The gel also provides greater brilliance - transparency and gloss.
As an independant contractor paid by Chroma Inc. USA, I gave a demo at a local art store here in Santa Fe. The demo provided an insight into Chroma Interactive Acrylic products. Chroma was good enough to supply me with various samples of their products to test. I have written articles reporting on these tests for:

http://acrylicpaintreview.com/

I will be submitting a two part article reporting on my recent use of these two mediums. The first article will talk about the Impasto Gel and the 2nd article will address my use of the Modelling Compound medium.

HOW YOU DO'IN UP THERE

Laura Robb a professional painter and one of the great still life painters of today-IMHO-  said words to the effect .........When I setup a still life I try to position the pieces so it appears they are having a conversation----it is that conversation that I paint.

16 X 20 on heavy linen canvas paper - wet into wet- alla prima with Chroma Interactive Acrylics and big brush. I met a painter on the internet who lives in New Mexico (same as me) and she mentioned that she favored my rendered pieces as compared to my expressive-semi-abstract pieces Soooooooo that gave me an idea and I decided to do a piece that is both "rendered" and touches of "expression."

I do however enjoy painting more in a semi-abstract (loose) expressive style and it is this style that I favor and am trying to hone.  But like I say you need to "render" once in a while least you forget!

"How You Do'in Up There" is my record of the conversation between two red pears :>)

YES, I CHANGED TO LOCATION OF THE STEM ON THE LEFT PEAR TO ENHANCE THE CONVERSATION!  :>)

UNRASSEMBLEMENT de TROIS

IN ENGLISH THAT WOULD BE ---"A GATHERING OF THREE"

16 X 20 on canvas panel with Chroma Interactive Acrylics.

I once again went back to a more detailed painting style thereby taking a short break from my avenue of loosening up my style.  I believe my style of painting to be less about rendering and more about expressing.  The looser the painting style the more expressive the painting.  That said-----it is good to render once in a while so one does not forget that process!  :>)

COMPARING APPLES & ORANGES

Melissa is still on jury duty soooooooooo I'm keeping busy again.

"COMPARING APPLES & ORANGES"

18 X 24 Chroma Interactive acrylics on heavy linen canvas paper wet into wet - alla prima with gusto & spontaneity in color and form with big SWOOPS of the brush in a semi-abstract style to develop the progression of a looser style.  As a painter, I feel my true style is less about rendering and more about expressing - to me looseness espresses.  I also put in a touch of rusticity - how I love that word!!!!

  >:>)

That is me above as a smiling easter bunny!!!!

This was painted to Esteban CD "All My Love"  Esteban is a flamenco/classical guitarist.  This Cd is of course mostly Flamenco!!!

Hope you enjoy.

CHEERS

Well, My wife is at jury duty again today, and it is suppose to go thru Saturday- I'd better go buy some more paint!!!!!

"CHEERS"

24 x 18 on heavy linen canvas paper - Chroma Interactive Acrylic - wet into wet - alla prima- with big brush and lots of arm movement with gusto and spontaneity of form - color - and over all presence of shapes and subject matter. Done in a semi-abstract style as part of my venture into loosening my style. Once dry, I may go back in and put some rusticity (brush marks) into it.

I am not a detail painter and as I've mentioned I want to develop my style to one step removed from SLOPPY!  Laura Robb a very famous still life painter said words to the effect......once you start to recognize the subjects the rignt side of the brain takes over and you are in trouble ---- DEAIL-DETAIL-DETAIL starts to take over!

BLUE BOWL

11 x 14 painted very, very, quickly wet into wet with big brush on heavy linen canvas paper with Chroma Interactive Acrylics.  This was done as part of my quest to loosen up my style and was done in an expressionistic style with gusto and spontaneity of color and form with an added touch of what I call rusticity.  I love the word RUSTICITY!!  One day I used that word in telling my wife Melissa about a painting I had done.  She said there is no such word as rusticity.  Wellllllll - I went into our office and conferred with Daniel and very proudly and happily proved to Melissa that there is such a word.  This was a big moment for me as on average I am only right about 3 times a year!!  Once though last year I thought I was right ------ but I was wrong!
