THE IDES OF MARCH

Good Morning Blog Buddies :>)

My DW Melissa is out this morning - she was invited to one of the local middle grade schools to do a reading of her novel "The Christmas Village" to 2 classes.  This invite was given by the school librarian.  HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!!!

The Ides of March (Latin: Idus Martiae) is the name of the 15th day of March in the Roman calendar, probably referring to the day of the full moon. The word Ides comes from the Latin word "Idus" and means "half division" especially in relation to a month. It is a word that was used widely in the Roman calendar indicating the approximate day that was the middle of the month. The term ides was used for the 15th day of the months of March, May, July, and October, and the 13th day of the other months.[1] The Ides of March was a festive day dedicated to the god Mars and a military parade was usually held.

WOW!!!!  HOW HEAVY IS THAT!!!!

Any Hooooooooo - I was sitting in my recliner one afternoon - around 3pm starting to drift off (my Dr. hates napping!!! - so don't tell him!!! He thinks if you nap there is an illness lurking inside you!!!)  MANnnnnnnn what a DIP-SHIT!!!!  Like I told him WHEN & IF he reaches 72 - he too will NAP!!!!

Any Hooooooooo again-------we lived on the rocky coast of Maine for about 15 years and got to see a lot of seasons and how the beach changes during the seasons!  A little digression ---- YA that's RIGHT -- DIGRESSION - I see the PITA is back in the 3rd row - first seat on my right!!!!  Geeezzzzz!!!  I can't win!!!!

Any Hoooooooo again-again-----  We've all seen seagulls on the beach - wellllllll let me tell you - the day after Labor Day when all the tourists have gone back to the big cities we would drive past the beach and there would be seagulls - lots of them - like 30 - all lined up in a pretty straight line (like line dancing) and they all faced the street - not the ocean --- the street.  It was like they were saying "HEY----- the season is OVER!!!!!  It's OUR beach now SO BUZZ OFF!!!!" This happened without fail every year ( 13 ) that we lived on this  beach!!!  HOW WEIRD IS THAT!!!!

HEY lady - digression over - take the pout off your face!!!  ( hee-hee)

Sooooooo while lounging in my recliner getting ready for the "illegal nap" - a thought came to my sick little mind regarding the beach - the season - the Ides of March.  Sometimes thinking up a title can be harder than doing the painting.  I have a painter friend who titled his first painting No. 1  from there he continued and he just sent me a photo of No. 378  - I think he has the right idea!

Sooooooo my sick little mind came up with the title------- drum rollllllllllll--------

"The Tides of March"  HOW CLEVER IS THAT!!!!!!!

Thus far we have:

HOW COOL IS THAT
HOW HEAVY IS THAT
HOW WEIRD IS THAT
HOW CLEVER IS THAT

Following is the very beginning of:

12 x 16 on Heavy Linen Paper

I start with the sky - darker at the top and gradually getting lighter to the point where the distant meeting of the horizon line and ocean will meet.
Things you've learned and important to remember:

1.  Never cut the painting surface in half with the horizon line.  WHY??
The painting will look like CRAP!!!

2.  The sky is normally darker at the top and lighter at the horizon

3.  Make the horizon line as straight as possible.  WHY??
Because if not - the viewer will have to tilt their head while viewing!!

I added a few "swipes" of the hint of a minimal cloud - this painting is not about clouds so I merely want the viewer to think "Oh a cloud."

NOT "WOW!!!!  What a great sky -- what great cloud formations!!!"

The painting as the title expresses is about the tide in March.

I'll stop here for a couple of reasons:

My DW Melissa will be home soon and we want to take a walk at the Santa Fe National Cemetery as we really like it there - quiet - peaceful and reverent.

The sky is blue it's about 45 degrees and that is forecast to change this afternoon as we have a big Pacific storm rolling in from California with 40-50 MPH winds and snow - predicted to last thru Saturday or Sunday!!!

The 2nd reason would be that I saturated the sky area of the linen paper with water as I love the effect of a sky painted into a very wet surface - especially when an atmospheric appearance is trying to be conveyed - IE: gloomy March.

Til next time I will post the progress of this painting I wish y'all a happy Thursday and be nice to yourself - be happy.
