Dick's Last Resort Review: Camping Orleans, I'le d'Orleans Quebec

CAMPING ORLEANS

Camping Orleans is a camp ground on Ile d' Orleans which is an island in the middle of the Saint Lawrence River just off the shores of Old Quebec City.

The island is made up of several small village - about 6 in total.  Each village has its own unique characteristics.  The island in years gone by was mostly into farming and some farming is still done.
There are wineries and art galleries and clothing shops and restaurants and on and on.
It is a beautiful place - very quiet - peaceful and a lovely place to be

Camping Orleans is a combination of RVs, travel trailers, pop ups trailers and tents.  The campground is well maintained and the restrooms and showers are neat and clean.

Part of the campground borders the Saint Lawrence river however we felt that this area would have been best left as sort of a park that all campers could enjoy.  As it is, the RVs and travel trailers and pop ups and tents are so crowed together that you could almost reach over and take some food off your neighbor's dining table.  Very, very cramped!!  Additionally, the sites are rather darkened with overhanging trees and most everyone has a fire at night and the smoke is still lingering in the morning.

We had our RV space at the very beginning of the campgrounds near the reception office.  These sites are nice sites although a few are somewhat difficult to pull or back into as the sites are somewhat on a hill like slant - not real steep but still a slant - not very level.

The sites are well maintained and these sites at the entrance to the grounds are the only ones I would recommend for a RV - 5th wheel or travel trailer.

The laundry room needs a lot of improvement as there are only 2 washers and 2 dryers for a rather large population of campers.  At that, they are stacked ones (apartment size ) and do not hold large loads.  The washers we also gunk - ed up with blobs of detergent in the dispensing feeds - in need of a good cleaning!

This campground provides a great jumping off point for Old Quebec City and all the towns and hamlets in the area of say a 2 hour drive or less.  The country side is just beautiful and Old Quebec City - if you have never been, it is a must see!!!!  Villages such as Baie Ste. Paul - Ste Irenee - Malbaie and many more.

The front desk folks and the management of the campground are very friendly and helpful.  The English spoken is broken and at times can be confusing but all in all very doable.

Would we return again?????

YES - only if we could get an RV space at the very beginning ( at the entrance )

On a scale of 1-5, we would give this campground a 3.5 - mostly for its location and ease of travel to Old Quebec City and the surrounding areas.
