HUBBARDS BEACH CAMPGROUND & RESORT
The positive aspect of this park was its location. A good jumping off point for pretty much all of the south shore of Nova Scotia. The front desk folks are very friendly and helpful.
These unfortunately are the only positive aspects!
The web site shows a very nice sandy beach which is one of the prime reasons we chose this location. For the majority of our ONE MONTH stay the beach was totally cluttered with blobs - globs - mounds of smelly sea weed!!! Additionally due to your neighbor being within spitting distance we had to go find a nice park to sit in and enjoy the surrounding scenery!
They advertise WiFi - which was mostly not available the entire stay - hit of miss with mostly miss! When it was available, it was the slowest WiFi we have ever encountered.
The water was not safe to drink!!! It contains an unsafe amount of ARSENIC - YES MY FRIENDS ARSENIC!!!! As a matter of fact a warning is posted by the Canadian Gov't!!! Of course there was NO MENTION of this on the web site - you were told about this during your check in!! There was a shallow well with "so they say" safe water for drinking - you needed to fill up your own jugs and lug them back to your RV! I would not touch it with a 10 foot pole - we bought bottled water!! CASES of it during our 1 month stay.
The sites are dirt/some with patches of grass, very, VERY short in length and width - your neighbors are very - VERY close - and no room to park your car except across the front of your RV and half way out into the road. Most sites have untrimmed dead branches hanging over head. Most sites are not very level and the sewer connections RUN UP HILL----DUH!!!!! We all know sh-- cannot not run uphill!!!!!
We ended up finding a nice clean beach about a 15 minute drive away to sit on and enjoy the ocean. Due to being within spitting distance of your neighbors, we found a nice park on a marina that we could sit in and enjoy the scenery. In other words the rather expensive RV site was used to park our RV in and sleep at night. 99% of our time was spent outside of this ill cared for so-called RESORT!!
This Campground appears to suffer from a complete deferment of any maintenance. I would venture to say this place has not been properly maintained for at least the past 5 years. The owners never seems to be present - at least they do not identify their presence- they must be too embarrassed!!!!
When you drive in, a sign welcomes you to:
HUBBARDS BEACH CAMPGROUND & RESORT
OH MY GOD - WHAT A FRIGGIN LIE!!!!!
The word RESORT needs to be eliminated as there is nothing RESORT like about this very rustic uncared for, maintenance deferred CAMPGROUND!!!
Unless of course it was your LAST RESORT!!!! At best an overnight stay perhaps and even that might be too long!!!!
We could have left - true - however with $1,081 paid for our 1 month stay - with NO REFUNDS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES OR FOR ANY REASON!!!! We could not really afford the loss.
Additionally upon searching out other options, we discovered most if not all the other campgrounds in this area of Nova Scotia are just about the same as this one. We looked at a couple out near Peggy's Cove and they where on a par (sub par) with this place! Lots of Canadians go RV-ing and camping and I'm surprised that Nova Scotia with all its tourist and local consumers does not revamp - cleanup and make their campgrounds better.
Would we come back to HUBBARDS BEACH CAMPGROUND & RESORT????
NAH - NOT EVEN AS A LAST RESORT!!!!!
ON A SCALE TO 1-5 IT GETS A ------ 3 - 4 FOR ITS LOCATION AND A BIG FAT ZERO FOR THE CAMPGROUND!!
A word or two to the wise - AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!
This of course is just my opinion after spending a month there.
